Corpus of the Unknowable

Cut up dictionary text and collagraph printing, each piece 7.5" x 7.5", 2003

Each print contains a single definition, cut up letter by letter, here to the word "corpus". Cutting up a dictionary letter by letter is largely about a search for meaning. These thousands of letters that should provide meaning but instead create a ludicrous unsolvable puzzle. How is meaning constructed and where is it housed?

The text dust is held in a small “pouch” that is created by a thin layer of transparent paper in front, printed to look like an exaggerated skin. Scars, orifices, bruises and the subtle transitions of flesh are colors to look through. Naming this series Corpus makes a direct reference to both a collection of writings and something that pertains to the human body.
